CORPES13 excursion and workshop dinner

Excursion to the port of Hamburg

Wednesday, 31 July 2013 afternoon

The CORPES13 excursion programme will take you to the port of Hamburg, one of the busiest in Europe and worldwide, especially in terms of container shipping.

Our boat tour will start from the ‘historical’ part of the port of Hamburg, the Landungsbrücken (i.e. landing stages), originally built for steam ships, where some historical vessels, like the tall ship “Rickmer Rickmers” and the cargo ship “Cap San Diego”, both of them currently serving as museums, are to be seen. The Speicherstadt, the ancient port warehouses, mostly re-built after the second world war in the original red-brick style, and the Elbphilarmonie concert hall complex (under construction) will provide a unique scenery. Furthermore there will be the opportunity to discover the activities at the container, cargo and cruise terminals, shipyards and other port areas ‘behind the scenes’ – and thus figure out why Hamburg is called “gateway to the world”.

Workshop dinner

Wednesday, 31 July 2013 evening

The excursion will be followed by the CORPES13 workshop dinner, which will take place on the tall ship “Rickmer Rickmers”, permanently mooring at the Landungsbrücken. During the reception the ship museum will be accessible to participants.

More information about the Rickmer Rickmers is available (in German) at http://www.rickmer-rickmers.de/
